Hikori is a small monster from the planet Peccaro.
The first step of this artwork (after designing Hikori) was to hand-model this with advanced 3D creation software.
No AI was used to create this artwork. It was all manually done across several days.
Making 3D models gives a lot of freedom in finding optimal angles to portray characters, but it’s a lot of work. This format allows me to pan and zoom until I find the right placing for the subject in the artwork.
Upon finding an angle I liked, I snapped a photo of Hikori seated on a sofa in his favourite cafe.
I made it black and white and printed it on really nice illustration paper.
When applying the acrylics, I had to bear in mind that the printer ink alters the way water adheres to the paper, so I had to restructure my approach slightly.
Hikori’s a great little monster, but sometimes he struggles with staying calm and not getting angry when upset. He’s working on it though!
